Methodism in Shieldfield

These three churches are the examples of Methodist religion in Shieldfield. United Free had 300 seats, Wesleyan had 500 and Salem had 900 seats, giving a total of 1700 seats for Methodist worship in the area.
The Methodist faith did not have the relationship that the Church of England had with money. Although there were definitely more affluent members of the community in Victorian Shieldfield, it make sense that there would be a higher percentage of Methodist sets in relation to the Church of England.

There was a large Scottish presence in Shieldfield at the end of the nineteenth century. United Free is a name which is strongly associated with Scottish Methodists. I would not be surprising if there was a large number of Scots living around the United Free methodist Church.
